West Adelaide 5 (J. Karatzas 3, N. Andijanto, T. Briscoe) West Torrens Birkalla 2 (R. Kitto 2)
West Torrnens Birkalla’s season has come to an end after being defeated by West Adelaide in the Preliminary final. The final score ended up 5-2 but in no way does the score represent how tight the game was.
Reaching the semi-finals was such a great achievement for the club and for a percentage of the general football public exceeded start of year expectations.
West Adelaide was always going to be a tough game and it was evident from the start that neither team wanted to concede an early goal. At the 20 minute mark Ryan Kitto made an attacking run and slotted home the first goal for Birkalla and holding onto the lead till the half time break was looking hopeful until right on the 45 minute mark West Adelaide equalised.
Having started the 2nd half at 1 all, both sides creating some goal opportunities, however West Adelaide manage to convert their shots and within 20 minutes had scored another 2 goals putting West Adelaide up 3 – 1. Scott Nagel had a chance to score but his strike went just shy of the cross bar. Birks managed to get one more across the line by Kitto but even committing more forward by going 3 at back was not enough and unfortunately our 2015 season came to an end.
Regardless of the result, the Club was proud to see the 1st Team get this far and now has a solid foundation to build on for next season…. Here’s to next year where we do it all again.
Unfortunately our under 18’s also failed to get over the line in the Preliminary final losing to Adelaide City 1-0. The boy’s fought hard all day and the final result would of been very different if we had taken our many chances to score in the first half.
A big congratulations to all the boy and coaching staff for a fantasic year and we will all look forward doing it all again in 2016.
