West Torrens Birkalla have partnered with One Culture Support Services to provide supported volunteering opportunities for people living with disabilities or special needs. Please watch the video here to find out more.
Participants involved in the program will receive up to 4 hours of FREE support per week from a club mentor / support worker. This includes transport to and from the venue and assistance with delivering the volunteering tasks allocated to the participants over the full program.
The program will run from February to August in 2022 and provides supported social and community engagement through sport.
Participants will be given the opportunity volunteer in a number of roles and tasks beyond the field such as;
- Gear management
- Facility maintenance
- Social media
- Ticket collection
- Match day assistance
People with disabilities will gain;
- Access to vocational experience opportunities in the sport and recreation sector previously unable
- Be provided with opportunities to connect with new people, create friendships and build interpersonal and professional networks.
- Develop work related skills like time management, leadership and teamwork increasing experience & employability.
- A chance to have an input in shaping shared outcomes data from the project that informs future frameworks from the vantage of people with disabilities.
