West Torrens Birkalla and MetroStars will meet this Saturday in Round 6 of the PlayStation 4 National Premier League South Australia, at Jack Smith Park, as both teams seek wins.
Only three points separate the finals aspiring sides.
Birkalla – who finished in the top six last season – has been inconsistent this year with two wins, two losses and a draw.
However, the Novar Gardens-based side managed to get a confidence boost last week in Round 1 of the Westfield FFA Qualifying Cup with a 2-0 win over State League side Adelaide Victory.
West Torrens goalkeeper, Julian Torresan, saw the win in the cup as a step in the right direction.
“It was a good win,” Torresan said,” It got us back on track.”
“It’s a real confidence booster. Again, you’re coming off a loss and then back into a win again.
“And the next five games are really crucial for us.
“And we know that we have to go into the next four, five games coming out with at least 12 points.”
The inconsistent performances, though, haven’t come as a surprise for Torresan at all.
“It’s a very even league,” he said,” You get the wrong team on the wrong day and you really can slip up quite easily, like we did two weeks ago against South Adelaide.”
“We should’ve gone down there and won.
“With the league being tied as it is it’s easier to slip up.”
Torresan sees the upcoming match against the MetroStars as extremely crucial, as it could set the tone for the rest of the season.
“It’s a very big game for us,” he said,” It’s a six pointer.”
“It either keeps us at the top there with the top four, five teams or we drop back down.
“We don’t want to be messing around in the lower part of the ladder; we want to be in top four competing for the finals again this year.”
